Population Description
The population of the state of Idaho in 1995 was estimated to be about 1,163,167 made up of 580,154 males and 583,013 females. These estimates were extrapolated from the U.S. Bureau of the Census 1990 population figures and the Idaho Center for Vital Statistics and Health Policy 1995 postcensal population estimates.7 Idaho is made up of 44 counties grouped into seven health districts. The composition of the health districts as well as their population estimates by gender as used in this report are shown below:

Descriptive Summary by Race and Gender
The data presented in this report cover those cases diagnosed in Idaho between January 1, 1995 and December 31, 1995. In this time frame , there were 4,783 cases of cancer diagnosed in Idaho (excluding cervix in-situ cases), of which 4,627 were Caucasian, 61 Hispanic, 16 Native American, and 8 African American. Other races such as Chinese, Japanese, etc., totaled 71 people. The 4,783 cases consisted of 2,444 males, 2,336 females, and 3 cases whose gender could not be confirmed.
